Carolina Outfitters
offers a scenic nature float trip on the Little Tennessee River. This river
flows through Macon & Swain Counties & is one of the most biologically
important areas in North Carolina. It is one of the last remaining southern
Appalachian Rivers to have escaped both dam construction & development. The
natural environment is rich in both plant & animal life. The river has
populations of native fish, mussel & amphibians. The surrounding forest is
home to a diverse bird population that includes both year round & seasonal
species, including a number of rare warblers. Stately long legged cranes or
egrets can often be seen standing in the river. Mink, muskrats, otter &
beaver make the riverbank area & tributaries their home. The forest is
populated by native animal species including squirrel, rabbits, opposums,
raccoons, & deer.
